Ok, yes, we all know (unless you have passed on to the big musical festival after crossing over the rainbow bridge) that the 50th anniversary of Woodstock was last year. Legend has it that 400,000 attended the event, but 1,000,000 claimed to have been there. similar to the people who will tell you that they have someone in their family who just missed sailing on the Titanic. Now some human from Vancouver Island has come forward saying that she is one half of the couple wrapped in the muddy blanket on the album cover! There are two people who have been appearing on various news and documentary shows for the last five decades who have always claimed to be “that” couple. And you can see the resemblance when you see them now. What is it with some humans who need their five minutes of fame? Now, I do not begrudge any canine their moment of being best in show at the AKK in Madison Square Garden. Who doesn’t love a trip to New York City ? Home of the AKK! In case you ever get there and want to look up your family tree. Then you can take a short boat ride over to Ellis Island and proceed to their bank of computer terminals to see which relatives of your “pawrents” came over to America . Historical note here, those who were in steerage and not first class (the upper crusts were processed on board before disem”barking”) had to go through inspection in the great hall. It seems that I digress, which is something I have been doing alot of lately.
It turns out that many things occurred in 1969. Not all of them pleasant , but half a century later I guess we boomers think that they were important and we should take note . Now that we have entered the year 2020 (don’t you just love it ?) we have Prince Harry and Megan Markle to focus on. Especially if you live here on Vancouver Island.
Here are some events and firsts, which you may or may not ,remember from way back when in 1969. For some the memories might be a bit cloudy, if you get my drift.
- First ATM
- Invention of the Bloody Caesar. Yeah Canada!
- Beatles last public performance
- Charles Manson murders
- Seiko invented the first quartz watch
- Battery powered smoke detectors came on the market
- I had my first kidney operation and was in hospital for 30 days post surgery as was the process way back then.
- Maturing boomers found Monty Python to be very entertaining…

- Man first walked on the moon, which is still debated if true, and not acted out on a sound stage
OK that’s it. What I really want to yak about is the condition of mine and Senor’s aging bodies. But I will save that for another day.
