Hello
The last time I wrote the purpose was to point out the necessity of writing your own obituary. It is too great a responsibility for your loved ones. It actually puts pressure on the family and they might spend too much money on its publication in the local papers out of feelings of ? Anyway, I know Senor wants to do nothing, but I am going to rely on my brother-in-law (Daniel the Airdale) to at least publish in the paper that “Poodela Passed” with a link to my blog. This should be ‘cheap’ enough to satisfy Senor, and one last blast at creative writing for myself.
So here are some helpful hints and links to writing your own obituary
- for some real chuckles and inspiration google words like ‘best obits’ and you will find quite the selection to read. The tributes you will probably find create reflections of the lives lived-whether they do so in a humorous, sentimental or boldly honest way. Take a look at a couple of the names I am mentioning below and then apply the lessons learned from these examples to your own obit writing process-William “Freddie”McCullough, Nevena Ann Topic, Michael “Flathead” Blanchard,Mary A “Pink” Mullaney
- New times indeed. There is now a very real concern about “identity theft” which is prompting some to recommend not providing complete information – such as date of birth, maiden name, and place of birth, in the obituary.
- Consider preparing a shorter public obituary without crucial information for the newspaper, and a longer more complete one for family records and future genealogical research.
- You really don’t have to spend money to tell the people who know me that I did not like cats , or that I loved to prepare dog biscuits which had a French flare. Even three carefully chosen words can sum up a life.
- Focus on the deceased as an individual, not a third person
- Decide on how many family members to include. Given the size of some litters I would have an excessive amount of relatives! And all of those names in the paper would cost alot of money.
- There are free templates out there in cyber universe to help you with the process.
So that’s it for tonight. Not too entertaining a post today, but valuable information. Maybe you could help me with my three words by submitting something in the comments! I would appreciate that even if things like chubby, walked like a duck, or short come up.
Next time we might talk about planning for the funeral or celebration of life. Boomers are coming up with some fantastic events/celebrations.
