Christmas 2021

It has been some time since we have had a bit of a chat,  so I thought I should try and compose something without the aid of spell check. (bad Word Press for taking that feature away from me) We seniors tend to get a bit confused and I am seeing alot of things backward. Especially words.

I have just completed the now traditional end of year clean up . There was yet again another delightful  colonoscopy,  dental cleaning, computer backup, and the removal of the names of dead friends from my phone list…All of that in the space of one week (and yes, we still have a landline and certainly enjoy those calls from folks like the Mastercard/Visa security team, or Bill Gates at Microsoft) We especially like the early morning ones from people with what we consider to be very heavy accents when speaking “American”. These wake  up  calls ,which we now define as anything before 9 AM , get our arthritic bodies moving around the kennel. Morning mobility is taking both myself and Senor some time. Hobbling around like a couple of 525 year old poodles. Yes, 2021 was a milestone year for both of us. We both received special cakes, snacks and treats. Senor ordered his own from the Dairy Queen. Not so good for a diabetic dog, but what the heck when you get to this age.

We all know that Covid has practicaly made us seniors shut ins. Oh that  fear of the last trip to the vet once you have met the Virus.  Inspite of telemedicine we have managed to get out and see  a medical or dental service provider on several occasions over the course of the year. Such a treat. And there was water therapy at the local pool which was  socially distanced and pre booked. Add to that our trips to Costco or the local pharmacy to pickup prescription drugs, and we have had a rather active and fulfilling life? Let us not forget three shots of vaccine.  And those returns to Amazon. We have not been in a movie theatre for almost two years and all the Netflix and Amazon Prime are not 100% making up for that. And then there was the reading. Thank the Grand Poodle in the sky for creating the ability to download books from Libby the Librarian onto the I Pad. We  live in a neighbourhood populated by  some serious readers and there was much sharing of hard cover books among the neighbours. But these transactions took place on porches, or in driveways.

I  have started  to really enjoy my masks, and  did my best to colour co-ordinate mine with my apparel , or a seasonal theme, on the days  when I was not wearing what might be referred to as super causual wear. Ok, call them pajamas. I have also noticed that I could let the hair on my face grow as long as I liked as it was covered up with the germ barrier cotton covering. Lipstick expenses were cut to 0$.   No matter the day , and in spite of being housebound , my motto is wear eyeliner or die, and I did find that it made me feel “real” to keep up with that practice.  Money was saved on shoes and clothing and was what you might say  invested in home improvements.

For something that was supposed to run a couple of weeks, this Covid has certainly turned out to be a surreal couple of years.

Merry Christmas. Yep, I am saying Merry Christmas. You get to do this when you are old and set in your ways. And old, I realize, I certainly am.
