Year End Musings

Today I would like to bark about clocks. Analog to be specific. A friend of mine was working a clerical job in a middle school. I know you are wondering why a school district would hire a canine for clerical work . (It was part of their new policy to include all species when hiring) Her position encompassed first aid and tending the “counter”. When a student arrived late for class they had to sign in with her. One day a young man who would be about 14 or 15 arrived late and when signing the sign in sheet he was required to put the time of his arrival. He asked my friend what time it was and she advised the little whipper snapper to look at the clock on the wall. Well, it became apparent that this young man could only tell time via his cell phone. Wow!

Now, I know we have to roll with change, but this ability to tell time with an Analog system seems rather important. What are these children going to do with all those Rolex watches that they are going to inherit from their grandparents ? The other thing which concerns me is that most cognitive testing require the “patient/client” to perform a number of tasks including moving the hands of the clock to various “telling the time” positions . So how are these folks ,who are up and coming, going to be able to test us to see if we are , to use an old saying, loosing our marbles! Now lets take a moment to think about that.

The next thought is about letting go of possessions. I am talking about my high school rollers(I bet you all thought that we poodles came by the curly hair naturally) . How could a bitch my age (who has lived in approximately 14 different kennels since those rollers were purchased over 60 years ago) still be hanging on to these things? Why people, tell me why! My fur is now old and weak and the brushes would only cause damage to the few precious fibres which I still possess. This must be worthy of some sort of analysis. I mean my gosh, that’s the original basket. The teasing comb I must have lost along the way. That roommate I had when I first left the pawrents removed the brushes from some of the rollers when she used them (without my permission) I had the brush less ones still in the basket too. They were removed yesterday. All covered in some sort of fuzz.

Well those are my year end thoughts. You were probably expecting some of the usual stuff that folks publish like happy stories and resolutions. But they are people and I am your favourite miniature poodle Poodela.

Happy 2023

Senor send his regards

PS – Gramarrly spell check does not recognise the word Analog…

      1. I miss being closer to Langford to be honest. This community is wonderful though as it is easily walkable and the neighbours honk and wave when driving by. Saying that, I have not become involved in much.

I miss the townhouse, but not the noise from some of our old neighbours!

I ran into Sue Dunn at Thriftys last week.

Cheers. A healthy 2023, and much happiness. Cheers, MM
